General Agencies Resources
The Plan collaborates with General Agencies to faithfully engage all people and advance the Church’s mission amid a world marked by inequality, individualism, and violence.

Discipleship Ministries is a general agency of The United Methodist Church that helps local churches develop and strengthen discipleship practices. It provides resources, training, and support in areas such as worship planning, Christian education, leadership development, and spiritual formation. Its goal is to equip church leaders to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

The General Board of Church and Society is the social justice and advocacy agency of The United Methodist Church. It works to implement the church’s Social Principles and advocate for justice in areas such as human rights, peace, environmental stewardship, and economic and racial justice. GBCS represents the denomination on Capitol Hill and around the world, seeking systemic change aligned with Christian ethical teachings.

The General Board of Global Ministries is responsible for The United Methodist Church’s global mission work. It supports missionaries, disaster relief, health services, and development projects in more than 100 countries. GBGM emphasizes partnerships, sustainability, and justice in its mission efforts and also includes UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), which responds to humanitarian crises.

The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry oversees the recruitment, education, and support of church leaders, both clergy and laity. It connects and supports United Methodist-related colleges, universities, and seminaries, and provides guidance for the ordination process. GBHEM fosters leadership excellence in service to the church and the world through education, scholarships, and leadership development programs.

United Methodist Communications is the agency responsible for sharing the church’s message through media and technology. It supports local churches with communication tools, branding, training, and public relations. UMCom also manages global communications, including The United Methodist Church’s official website, digital outreach, and news services, helping tell the story of the church’s ministry and witness.
